Yom HaZikaron, Israel’s Day of Remembrance, holds profound significance for us all. It is a time to honor the memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice for Israel those who lost their lives in battle and to acts of terror.

This year, our commemorative service will hold a special focus as we honor the 82 Sha’ar HaNegev community members who were murdered in the brutal attacks on October 7, 2023.

This year’s event theme reminds us, “The Flowers Will Continue to Bloom,” by displaying San Diego’s contributions to the Anemones in the Community project, which was inspired by the poignant words of Yafa Solomon and the natural beauty of Sha’ar HaNegev. This initiative, born out of tragedy, aims to create 100,000 ceramic flowers as a tribute to the victims of “Black Saturday.” What started as a modest plan to display 40 flowers has blossomed into a remarkable large-scale endeavor, drawing in hundreds to contribute.

The San Diego Jewish community has proudly participated in this global project, and the ceramic flowers will be on display during Yom HaZikaron and Celebrate Israel: Now and Forever. These flowers serve as a symbol of solidarity and support for the renewal of hope in the south of Israel.
